How Therapists Are Failing LGBTQ Millennials

Questions for Discussion:

  1. In your experience, have you interacted with individuals who expressed that bisexuality and/or non-binary gender identities were “just a phase” or “trendy?”

  2. If you feel comfortable sharing, have you ever experienced a healthcare provider focusing on your sexual orientation or gender identity when trying to access care regarding another issue? What was that experience like? How did it make you feel?

  3. The article notes that one of the challenges therapists and mental health professionals face in providing culturally competent care for LGBTQ+ patients is new and changing terminology. In the past, how have you handled it when you heard terminology that you were unfamiliar with? What recommendations and resources would you share with those who want to learn more?
