Talking Inclusively: July 2017

Welcome to Talking Inclusively, a monthly series designed by PFLAG National's Straight for Equality program to create conversation about intersectionality, LGBTQ+ issues, inclusion and more! Each month we’ll offer an article on diverse topics and suggest a few questions that you can use to lead a discussion focused on how we can make space that is more welcoming for everyone.

Questions for Discussion:

  1. Does the argument made in this article – that LGBTQ+ elders of color face discrimination, poverty, and health disparities at higher levels than LGBTQ+ elders who are white – surprise you? Why or why not?

  2. Have you heard of projects like Mary’s House before? Does your city or state understand the need to, or already have plans to, create affordable housing for LGBTQ+ elders?

  3. Is there anything that your group or organization could do to create better community support for LGBTQ+ elders? If so, how can you be sure your efforts are supporting those with the greatest need, including LGBTQ+ elders of color?
