Censoring gay marriage on TV could be an ominous sign of things to come

Source: The Week

Author: Neil J Young

Questions for Discussion:

  1. The article uses the case of an Alabama PBS channel refusing to air an episode of "Arthur" which addresses same-sex marriage. Do you think that this is an appropriate move? Why or why not? Do you think that the impact of LGBTQ+ characters and storylines is as significant as some people argue?

  2. Does it surprise you that about a third of Americans still find being gay to be "morally wrong"? Why or why not?

  3. In the article, the author cites examples suggesting that most Americans don't see the need for additional work on LGBTQ+ equality because their perception is that, for the most part, equality has been achieved and/or what has happened is sufficient. Have you encountered people who hold this opinion? Why do you think it's the case? How do you respond?
